2010 World Cup: Italy Team News

The Italy coach Marcello Lippi remained true to his word today by rewarding the players who helped the Azzurri to the World Cup finals with a place in his provisional squad for this year's tournament in South Africa.

I'm pretty sure Rino only made it for the photo shoot. Certainly wasn't because of the quality of football he's played in the last year.

I'm still perplexed at Lippi's decision to call Gattuso up. Surely the presence of De Rossi, Palombo and even Marchisio and Montolivo is enough cover for defensive mid. All 4 have had way better seasons too.

It is odd, but perhaps he is needed for his influence in the locker room...
