It never rains but it pours. A cheap way of starting the article I know, but in Palma de Mallorca on Wednesday night it did look for a time as if the rain in Spain would fall mainly on the pain. Or to clarify the metaphor somewhat, it looked as if Spain's hopes for qualifying for Europe 2008 were going to bubble down the gutter along with the torrential downpour.
