Seattle Sounders FC Wins Out in Name Contest

Sounders? I guess the Seattle folk will think Pugent, but when I hear Sounder, all I can think of is the depressing dog story.
“The team playing at the highest level in our region has always been called Sounders,” said Hanauer. “Starting with the NASL and then the USL 1st Division, we now have the chance to create a separate and distinct identity with the new MLS team.”
Now, as to why the NASL team was called the Sounders, I don't know. Perhaps Port Angeles native Sheedy could enlighten us. Or the guy that does The Beautiful Game -- I think he's from Seattle.
Perhaps "The Pugets" wasn't as attractive...
Person from Puget Sound = Sounder.
Multiple people from Puget Sound = Sounders.
The Sounders name was actually chosen by popular demand back in 1973 as well. Off the top of my head, I can't think of another sports team that manages to be both city specific and regional in the same name.
Brilliant! Thank you, Carlos T!!
