Frank Dell'Apa on Beckham's impact

David Beckham will have about the same initial impact on soccer in the U.S. as Pelé did when he arrived to play for the New York Cosmos in 1975. There will be massive publicity and it will follow Beckham (nearly) everywhere. The MLS then will have to hitch itself onto Beckham's trail and hope this leads toward either the promised land or at least to a higher profile on the sports scene without bankrupting the entire league.

How did they choose the teams? It's obvious, right? Select the league champ and the runner up andthe two teams that were knocked out getting to the final, right? If not, maybe selecting the winner of the only major domestic cup in the US would be a good idea? Honestly, Houston was a lock as champs and DC United finished with the most points. LA has Mr Wonderful coming in, got to get him on tv, preferrably getting doused by urine while taking a corner kick. But Dallas? What the fuck?
