Wayne Rooney has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester United, ending speculation about his future. It brings to an end an amazing ten days of claim and counter claim coming out of Old Trafford which began with Rooney refuting manager Sir Alex Ferguson's claim that he was suffering from an ankle injury and seemed set to culminate with the player being sold in January.

So next summer Real Madrid get a player who's not cup tied for the Champions League and Man Utd get max value for the transfer. It's awfully nice of Wayne-o to give up some of his signing bonus at Real, but I guess his cut of the larger transfer fee will make up for that. It's either that or he's just as stupid as Landon Donovan.
