Peter Trembling, the County chairman, had been making attempts to broker a peace deal with the former Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur defender, who turned 35 last week, but it is thought Campbell was unhappy with the club’s progress over improving training facilities and the playing squad. Trembling confirmed the news and wished Campbell well with the remainder of his career.
