Congrats to RSL on their first championship. They were better than LA last night when it counted and they worked hard to get to the final. I can't help but feel that a team that goes into the playoffs with a losing record and wins two consecutive penalty shootouts to win a championship exposes real flaws in the MLS playoff system- can anyone at this point argue that the regular season has much meaning at all? Playoff seeding sure doesn't, and if the regular season is played solely for seeding than the whole thing is an pointless. They need to rebuild the whole thing once the league gets to 18 teams- run MLS Cup in parallel to the regular home schedule, like the FA Cup. Get rid of the Supporters Shield in favor of something of greater value- call it the League Championship or something.

See Wahl's interview with Garber. Sadly, it does not look good for any major changes at the moment.
