Little big man still retains ability to divide opinion around the world

Diego Maradona is coming to England, which feels a bit like issuing a storm warning. The Argentinian is about as likely to slip quietly in and out of the country as José Mourinho is to withdraw discreetly out of our lives.

Controversy is already in the air and we are still a couple of weeks from the revival of the famous 1986 World Cup quarter-final between Argentina and England being planned for Villa Park. While Peter Reid longs finally to catch up with the little man who danced away from him at the Aztec Stadium all those years ago, Terry Butcher has said that he would “rather gnaw my own arm off than share the pitch with the cheating little s***”.
