A confusing move in light of what transpired beforehand. - Why would Bob be happy with demotion down to the Olympic team if Sunil bags his supposed international superstar coach? - Why would Nowak be happy as the assistant coach of the Olympic team rather than running his own franchise? - Why would DC United ship out Freddy Adu because he can't get along with his coach if DC United is not interested in renewing the coach's contract?
Frankly I think that Bob is as good a choice as any for the permanent job. I don't know what a foreign coach who doesn't know the US talent pool and is unfamiliar with how player development works in the USSF and the NCAA. I guess he must be fairly confidant that he'll keep the job. To me it looks like Nowak really wanted out at DC. I'll bet he's not Bob's assistant in a year's time.
