Thank God for Univision

Dave O'Brien and Marcelo Balboa suck. O'Brien sounds like he's watching a baseball game and Balboa can't start any sentence without stuttering. Maybe since there is so much grease in his hairfarm he'll get electrocuted and we'll be done with him. http://users.aol.com/futboln2/balbwarm.jpg Why can't American announcers get it right? You don't have to talk all the time. You don't have to explain every damn thing that is going on in the match. Let it flow! And quit using terminology for other sports for soccer. The guy did not take that shot "from three-point land." The goalie's clearance was not "like a pop-fly." Trinidad & Tobago are not trying to "be like George Mason." The two players are not "battling for position in the paint." Come on. Enough.

Right on the American commentators. Brutal job today. The sheer mass of mentions of the Civil War in Cote d'Ivoire made it almost impossible to enjoy what was a very entertaining game.

No explanation of the weird little joke fest that happened in the 65th minute or so between Sweden and T&T?

And yes, the constant American sports references were draining, as well as the really horrible offsides explanations. JP Dellacammera also never seemed to glean that T&T were playing for a tie. "He's in the corner, and I assume he's looking for a way out of there." No he isn't, dummy, he's burning clock!

They should just have the Tommy Smyth commentating team do all the games off of monitors. The result would be far better than what we have now.

I found in nice that Eric Wynalda to tell the people of T& T that they finally had a national hero, their goalie. Sad that the nation has so much history without ever having a national hero

Univision is definitly the way to go. I love hearing the spanish language announcers chanting GOL GOL GOL.

And Tommy Smyth is the only good thing about the US commentary. Adrian Healey is apparently charged with reading the ESPN "usless statistics" teleprompter. I wish I could see the facial expressions he makes as he reads that thing. I've always appreciated the deep irony that it seems only the british can pull off.
