Liverpool vs. Chelsea, The Joy of Six, Gentleman Ultra's Alternative Serie A Guide To Palermo, Fernando Torres

Tomorrow. 7:45 a.m. EST. NBCSN.

Right! And there goes another week. The matches just keep coming, don't they? Fabulous. Last night in Europe there were no surprises. Dinamo Moscow, Fiorentina, Legia Warsaw, and Salzburg reached the knock-out stage, while the other Big Boys (Spurs, Everton, Sevilla) moved closer. Here a quick review. Now then, on to the weekend. Per usual, we'll begin in the UK and move east.

Liverpool vs. Chelsea: 50/50 Challenge

In Spain, Barcelona are down to fourth as Valencia continue their surge up the table. Here's a weekend preview for La Liga. And it's been a weird season so far in Italy. Here's a weekend preview where Napoli's trip to Fiorentina catches the eye.

Stadio Renzo Barbera (Palermo)
Woop! The Gentleman Ultra is back! This time, his Serie A Alternative Guide takes him to Sicily to tackle Palermo. Enjoy!

Fernando Torres. Remember that guy? Yup, he used to be pretty good. He plays for AC Milan now. Can he turn his career around? Paolo Bandini addresses the issue.

The Joy of Six is here. This week's edition is Football Abandonments.

Errr...di Maria goes shopping? Why not? Fanta, Corona, Sprite...

And finally...
Bundesliga this week and this weekend? Raphael Honigstein, Max Whittle, and Ryan Baxter are on the case. Serie A this week and this weekend? James Horncastle and Max Whittle are on the case. La Liga this week and this weekend? Andy Brassell and Max Whittle (that guy's everywhere!) are on the case.

CSKA Shock City, Bayern Cruise Past Roma, Nani Sparkles for Sporting, Soccer in Indianapolis

Oh, dear. How is it possible that Manchester City are so poor in the Champions League? They lost again last night, this time at home to CSKA Moscow. They finished with nine men, but the damage had been done prior to the red cards. They were simply woeful. Elsewhere, Bayern Munich continued their goose steps towards a return to the final by dispatching a strong Roma side. Again. Sporting beat Schalke, Barcelona won in Amsterdam as Messi equaled Raul's record, and Chelsea could only draw at Maribor as Eden Hazard saw his late penalty saved. Let's get to it.

Manchester City 1 - 2 CSKA Moscow: Phil McNulty at the Etihad Stadium
Manchester City 1 - 2 CSKA Moscow: Paul Wilson at the Etihad Stadium
Manchester City 1 - 2 CSKA Moscow: Three Points
Ajax 0 - 2 Barcelona: Sid Lowe at the Amsterdam Arena
Bayern Munich 2 - 0 Roma: Three Points
Sporting Lisbon 4 - 2 Schalke: Adam Bate at the Estadio Jose Alvalade

You know, if the Galatasaray fans can't behave themselves, perhaps they shouldn't be allowed to attend away matches. Just saying.

Hey! Not satisfied with two days of Champions League football? Not to worry! The Europa League is coming to the rescue. Featuring...Apollon Limassol vs. Borussia Monchengladbach, Rio Ave vs. Steaua Bucharest, Guingamp vs. Dinamo Minsk, and Lokeren vs. Trabzonspor! Yes, you cannot afford not to watch.

North American Soccer League. Indianapolis. Who knew? Leave it to The Guardian to inform us about soccer in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Stats? Yes, according to them, Liverpool, Hull City, and Borussia Dortmund are in trouble.

That's it! All done! See you tomorrow with previews of the weekend.

Liverpool Lose, Arsenal Collapse, Juventus Rally

Errr...
Goodness Gracious, is it Hump Day already? A couple of interesting ones yesterday as Arsenal pulled an Arsenal and gave away a three-goal lead to Anderlecht, while Brendan Rodgers sent out a rather inexperienced side (a White Flag XI?) and Liverpool lost in Madrid. Let's read all about it!

Real Madrid 1 - 0 Liverpool: Sid Lowe at the Bernabéu
Real Madrid 1 - 0 Liverpool: Daniel Taylor at the Bernabéu
Real Madrid 1 - 0 Liverpool: Three Points
Gabriele Marcotti: Is Rodgers a fool or a genius?
Marcus Christenson: Why Brendan Rodgers was spot on
Arsenal 3 - 3 Anderlecht: David Hytner at the Emirates Stadium
Arsenal 3 - 3 Anderlecht: Barney Ronay at the Emirates Stadium
Arsenal 3 - 3 Anderlecht: Three Points

More matches today! The Etihad should be full, thanks to this buy-one-get-one-free deal. Ahem. Here are some previews:

Ajax vs. Barcelona: Preview
Ajax vs. Barcelona: Tactical Preview
Manchester City vs. CSKA Moscow: Preview
Bayern Munich vs. Roma: Preview

People protested when Sepp Blatter gave a speech. Good.

Grant Wahl's got a column worth checking out. Among other things, Wahl says he's got a source in Madrid who claims the Pepe/Super Mario shirt swap was Pepe's idea. Hmmm...

AC Milan. A massive club that has been struggling for a while. What's going on? Another year without Champions League football? Really?!

Hey. That's it.

City Edge United, Bayern Edge Dortmund, Napoli Defeat Roma, Monday Night Football, Rostov Racism

"Even the reddest Mancunian must have felt his loyalty tested, so idiotic were the actions that contributed to Smalling’s dismissal."
Hello, Monday! Another fabulous weekend of footie as City won the Manchester Derby thanks to Chris Smalling losing the plot and despite Michael Oliver not calling two obvious penalties. Up in Newcastle, the home side's resurgence continued, this time via a win over Liverpool. Over in Munich, Bayern despatched of Borussia Dortmund, and in Naples, Napoli knocked off Roma to allow Juventus to go back on top in Italy. Meanwhile, in Spain, Barcelona lost. At Home! Ouch. Let's move forward with the reports and fallout, beginning the Premier League.

Peter Berlin: EPL Thoughts
Newcastle 1 - 0 Liverpool: Louise Taylor at St. James' Park
Newcastle 1 - 0 Liverpool: Three Points
Arsenal 3 - 0 Burnley: David Hytner at the Emirates Stadium
Manchester City 1 - 0 Manchester United: Barney Ronay at the Etihad Stadium
Manchester City 1 - 0 Manchester United: Martin Samuel at the Etihad Stadium
Manchester City 1 - 0 Manchester United: Richard Jolly at the Etihad Stadium
Manchester City 1 - 0 Manchester United: Daniel Taylor at the Etihad Stadium
Manchester City 1 - 0 Manchester United: Three Points
Manchester City 1 - 0 Manchester United: Five Talking Points
Aston Villa 1 - 2 Tottenham: Stuart James at Villa Park

One more thing on the Premier League before we move on. Phil McNulty's got this: Ten talking points after Louis van Gaal's first 10 games.

So...Rostov is a host city for Russia's World Cup in 2018. Here's what Rostov's gaffer had to say last week when he was asked about the potential for signing a defender from Cameroon: (The club has) “enough dark-skinned players, we’ve got six of the things.”

We mentioned above that Barcelona were shocked at home. That's two La Liga defeats in two games since a certain player began his Barcelona career. Celta Vigo were the winners of this weekend's match, and Sid Lowe was at Camp Nou to file this report. More Spain? Here are Five Things We Learned this weekend in La Liga.

Let's go back to Germany for a minute and ask ourselves this question: Have Bayern Munich destroyed Borussia Dortmund's success?

Over to Italy! As reported earlier, Napoli downed Roma in the big match of the weekend. Here's a report. We'll have more tomorrow with Paolo.

This is good. Emirates will not longer be associated with SPECTRE FIFA. Hopefully Sony will follow suit.

Didn't get enough action over the last two days? Fear not - Monday Night Football is coming up! Struggling Sunderland have the long trip down to Selhurst Park to deal with. Here's a preview.

Marcotti's Musings? We've got 'em. Today Gab's gabbing...Dortmund, Manchester United take positives from defeat; Barca in no crisis.

And finally...just how bad has it gotten for Manchester United? Take a gander.

The Manchester Derby, Los Angeles Football Club, Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund

Here we go again...
And there goes anther one, folks! The weekend is here and it is time to party! Manchester Derby? Bring it! Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund? Das ist super! Napoli vs. Roma! Grazie mille! Let's roll, beginning with the Premier League necessities...

Manchester City vs. Manchester United: 50/50 Challenge

Americans Abroad. It's been awhile. Let's check in on Yanks plying their trade across the ponds/borders.

A title race in Spain? It's the honest-to-goodness truth. Here's a preview for the weekend action in La Liga. We should take a gander at Italy while we're at is. Besides the Napoli/Roma clash, there is Samp/Fiorentina, Parma/Inter, Milan/Palermo, and Empoli/Juve. Check it.

Let's get caught up on MLS. Here are some headlines: Vancouver lament a bad call, Thierry Henry shows he's still the best around, FC Dallas will need to improve home form, and KC can’t escape their end-of-season woes. Speaking of MLS, did you know Chivas USA no longer exists? Not to fear, those of you who think there should be two franchises in The City of Angels: LAFC is here!

Red Star Belgrade vs. Partizen Belgrade. A dodgy derby to make make Manchester's seem tame. Kirsten Schlewitz took in the action recently and filed this report from Serbia.

What's In Your Wallet Cup?, Cosmos Sign Raul, Roy Keane Reveals 'Drinking Was My Hobby'

That's one Hamburg fan who's not a fan of Franck.

Wow! League Cup fun! Whoda thunk? Newcastle looked good yesterday. All of a sudden they've got a spring in their step and look to be turning things around. They dispatched a rather lethargic Manchester City side at the Etihad without too much trouble by the score of two goals to zero. Speaking of trouble, Man City not only lost the match, but they also lost playmaker David Silva. Jamie Jackson was at the match and filed this report. Richard Jolly was there as well and came away with Three Points about the contest. Up next for City? United. Yikes.

Elsewhere, Graziano Pellè simply cannot stop scoring for Southampton. He's been key to the Saints surge up the table in the Premier League, and last night he scored two, including the late winner as his side won at Stoke. Pete Lansley was at the Britannia Stadium and filed this report. In the other match, Spurs beat Brighton 2 - 0. Here's a report.

What else? Ahh, yes. Italia. These weren't cup matches, mind you. Straight up Serie A, son! Our favorite scribe in Italy, Paolo Bandini, gives us all we need to know here. It was Gigi Buffon's 500th game for Juve, but he didn't get the win! No, instead, Juventus lost to Genoa and with Roma's win, the top of the table it tied up. Juventus = Played (9), Goal Difference (12), Points (22). Roma = Played (9), Goal Difference (12), Points (22). Here's a wee bit more on Juventus.

Another old guy is coming to the States. Raul has signed with the NY Cosmos. He's 37. Ok, then.

MLS Playoffs kicked off last night. Dallas beat Vancouver. Brian Strauss has Three Thoughts about it.

And finally...more fun with Roy Keane. 'Drinking was my hobby, I suppose. I’m not giving it the thumbs up, but it was my trait. I don’t know why – because I’m Irish, maybe, because I lived by myself. Boredom kicked in.'

What's In Your Wallet Cup?, Clattenburg Dropped After Sheeran Gig, Midweek Serie A Action, Tevez Back With Argentina, MLS

That's better. We took a wee break but we're back on this fine Hump Day. It was quite the weekend, what with Real Madrid and Barcelona squaring off, and Chelsea and Manchester United going at it. Hey! West Ham beat Manchester City and are in the Top Four! How did that happen!?

There were some fine goals, too. Here they are. Let's call them...Goals of the Week (plus Tackle of the Week and Miss of the Week).

He scores when he wants. Which is not terribly often, mind...
The League Cup had some matches yesterday. Matches of note? Well, Chelsea edged Shrewsbury Town to advance. Jamie Jackson was at New Meadow and filed this report. Mario Balotelli scored and Liverpool left it late to edge Swansea City. Andy Hunter was at Anfield and filed this report. Richard Jolly was there as well and came away with Three Thoughts about the contest.

Today you've got Manchester City vs. Newcastle, Tottenham vs. Brighton, and Stoke vs. Southampton.

Major League Soccer. What the hell is going on in that league? This helps us find out. Thank you, Grant Wahl, Brian Straus, Bird (Power Rankings!), etc. You want a MEGA MLS PLAYOFF PREVIEW? We will make it so.

Graham Hunter wants to talk about Diego Simeone and Atlético Madrid. We shall let him do so.

We all hate Mark Clattenburg, right? A ref who wants the spotlight, who jokes with gaffers, who, well, sucks? Yes. Anyhoo, he won't be working this weekend. He broke some rules and went to see Ed Sheeran. Shame.

Sad, but true...

This is some midweek action in Serie A to get you through to Saturday. Here's a preview. You're looking at Fiorentina vs. Udinese, Inter vs. Sampdoria, and Genoa vs. Juventus, among others.

In Spain they'll play some Copa del Rey today. Looks like Real Madrid face some club called Cornholeia. Good luck with that. Meanwhile, in the League, Sevilla are the surprise package thus far. Let's investigate, shall we?

Tim Vickery is reporting from South America. His focus is on Argentina and the return of a certain Carlos Tevez to the national side.

And finally...this English FA official is a Neanderthal.

Just a wee bit of history...

Look at this: As the MLS season enters its final weekend, the Supporters' Shield is still up for grabs and the race to for Eastern Conference playoff spots is heating up quite nicely. Here's what to watch when the assGalaxy and Sounders clash.

Also in the show, Sid Lowe looks forward to Luis Suárez's likely return in a typically low-key clásico, while we also catch up with the state of play in India's Super League and Ireland's Premier League. Finally, we preview the big games in the Premier League this weekend, including Manchester United v Chelsea, Sunderland v Arsenal, and 'Arry Redknapp v Adel Taarabt.

Let's not forget Italy. Here's a preview of the weekend's Serie A menu.
